Student Design Competition 2026
The IES Boston Section supports lighting professionals through education, knowledge exchange, and professional development, fostering better lighting practices for our built environment.
Introduction:
2026-27 Theme: Recreation
Every year, the IES Boston Section hosts a Student Design Competition to challenge local students to design their own light fixture (luminaire) which is submitted to be judged by a multidisciplinary panel of experts. Three finalists will be selected from among the entries. Their designs will be displayed at the annual Awards Gala in late Spring!!
Each finalist will win a cash prize ranging from $1000-$2000.
The theme for this contest is recreation. Take a break from your busy schedule with one of your favorite pastimes—puzzles, games, sports, hobbies, camping, etc. While relaxing, find an idea that can inspire a design for a light fixture based on this theme.
