In November, the IES Boston and Rhode Island Section hosted a tour of the new Annie E. Fales Elementary School in Westborough, MA. This was our section’s first in-person building tour in over two years, and it was fantastic to have so many members of the local lighting community join us. The Annie E. Fales Elementary School is the first net-positive energy public school in New England. Several design elements come together to achieve this exciting milestone, including photovoltaics on sawtooth roof monitors, geothermal wells, a high-performance building envelope, and efficient lighting design. It was exciting to see how the lighting design contributed to the school’s net-positive energy goals, while also supporting the learning goals of this child-centered environment.

Thank you to our tour guides Justin Brown and Penn Whitlow of Lam Partners and Caitlin Osepchuk of HMFH Architects for leading this event, and to Ben Wilson for managing the registration.
